Inquiry and Response Regarding Edmonton Coliseum Reclamation

Dear Facility Infrastructure Delivery Team,

Can you please confirm the reclamation start date for the Coliseum? I trust that no work will begin before the report is completed with recommendations regarding future development and the work surrounding Coliseum Station. I also understand that nothing is expected to happen with the Coliseum until summer.

We have comprehensive reuse plans that deserve exploration, along with a business plan currently in development that will outline costs, projected revenues, and potential savings compared to new construction.

Follow-Up Response

The information provided is very helpful and greatly appreciated. This means that the Edmonton Coliseum and Northeast Edmonton should not become economic and social casualties as a result of building Rogers Place downtown. Quite the contrary, the Edmonton Coliseum could and should continue contributing to the vibrancy and economic impact of the city by delivering services, hosting events, and generating revenue for Edmontonians.

We are hopeful that, with a newly elected Mayor and Council, a better path forward for the reuse of the Coliseum can be considered—one that does not conflict with existing venues, but instead enhances Edmonton’s overall event infrastructure while saving billions in potential new construction costs.

Let’s reallocate the funds earmarked for demolition toward the rehabilitation of the Edmonton Coliseum, building on its already strong foundation and historic legacy.

Additional Correspondence

Hello Greg,

The Northlands Coliseum deconstruction project is currently in the preliminary phase of work. This phase involves a thorough investigation of the facility to identify hazardous materials and determine the safest, most cost-effective methods for their abatement and the subsequent deconstruction. While a specific deconstruction date has not yet been announced, the current target is this spring for the beginning of abatement and selective deconstruction, with major deconstruction starting once hazardous materials abatement has been completed. The project focus remains on safely clearing the structure to transition the site into its next chapter as a multi-use outdoor festival and event place, as outlined in the Exhibition Lands Master Plan.

Followup Response

Dear Caleb Smith,

Hello Caleb,

I greatly appreciate your send.
Yes, I understand the abatement process, and this is a process needed whether plans to deconstruct, demolish, Or maintain and rehabilitate the building for reuse takes place. I have consulted with a number of industrial professionals on this very subject, and their estimates range from 15 to 30 million dollars. Much has to do with what can be saved and what will need to be removed and/or replaced. It has been suggested that a great deal can be saved if the insulation between the six foot walls can meet code and be left, built over as done, approved in other projects.

By savethecoliseum.ca taking the lead on this project, our cost may be as much as three times lower than costs occurred by the city.

I do sincerely understand that the new council, the mayor, city manager’s are very interested, intriguiged with our plans for the reuse of the Edmonton Coliseum, all six floors as brought forward in our round table discussion #5. Further illustrated in our three (3) press releases now posted on site under articles. I invite you to read these news releases, articles and explore our website; savethecoliseum.ca including the layout for the surrounding land development. Plans are very fluid as we start to attact more interested parties.

We have a better master plan saving over 5 billion dollars just on a new buildings with floors dedicated to education and health.

And there is more, so much more…

There is our business plan that will see our community leagues, indigenous bands, and the city see from all revenues generated monthly, a twenty (20) percent return. We have held sold out concerts and events grossing over five (5) million dollars in one night with a surplus of net earnings totaling 1.7 million dollars. Based on attendance of 18,000. With standing room only the coliseum can accomodate 21,000 souls. I witnessed this myself.

According to these numbers, just on events alone, 1 million dollars will go just to Edmonton’s 300 communities. According to reports, communities have asked for 30 million for maintenance. With the Edmonton Coliseum becoming Edmontons Events Centre, there is no limit to the amount of money we could raise. Operations of the coliseum would see the remaining 40 percent 👌 realized.

Investment in the colisium itself will be based on potential growth being 1.2 billion dollars needed to replace the building according to Gary Green of BBB Architects. There will be ownership shares held by the City of Edmonton of 1.2 billion and the same value in B Trading Shares open to and offered tothe public.

A group of accredited brokers will award all shares to investors and handle reofferings. Our private investment platform sees a 10% reinvested dividend and a 50% RIO on reoffering of the shares.

We have and are gaining more and more public and business support as our plan gains traction. And we are just getting started. This will be one of my last projects, a crowning achievement prior to full retirement @ 70 years old, from which my business and all seven divisions will be sold.

It is my hope and intention that once you are well informed of our plans for reuse of the Edmonton Coliseum and surrounding lands, we will earn your support.

Have a super week!
