Press Release: EDMONTON, ABJanuary 3, 2026

Advocacy group savethecoliseum.ca announced today that a formal proposal to reclaim and repurpose all six floors of the Edmonton Coliseum has been submitted to Edmonton City Council and administration. The comprehensive project, which has been over two years in development, was completed entirely through donated professional services at no cost to taxpayers.

The business plan outlines a strategic conversion of the city-owned facility into a multi-use community hub. Key features of the proposal include:

  • A New Community Hospital: Utilizing designated floors to provide 240 hospital beds.

  • K-12 Educational Centre: Utilizing two floors, including the conversion of former skyboxes into classrooms for 1,200 students.

  • Economic Impact: The plan estimates a savings of over $4 billion in new construction costs.

“By choosing to repurpose the existing structure rather than build from scratch, the city can redirect billions of dollars toward hiring and training the doctors, nurses, and teachers our growing community desperately needs,” the group stated in the submission.

The financial framework of the Edmonton Coliseum Business Plan includes a unique stock option structure valued at $1.2 billion in both ownership and B Trading Shares. The group is currently seeking engagement from Edmonton-based accredited stock brokers, with plans to seek formal approval from the Alberta Securities Commission (ASC).

Additional details, including the full revenue stream projections and development phases, are expected to be released on the organization’s website.
